The National Consumption Study II provides an overview of the real micronutrient intake of Germans. Data from 15,371 citizens between the ages of 14 and 80 who answered questions about their daily diet were analyzed.
Dietary supplements have been increasingly criticized since studies were published linking the supplementation of individual micronutrients to an increased incidence of various diseases. At the same time, the recurring mantra is that a healthy and balanced diet more than covers the need for vitamins, minerals, and trace elements.
However, reality shows that most people do not manage this healthy and sufficient diet in this way, and therefore consume too few vitamins, trace elements, and minerals. This is especially true when everyday life is so busy that the body needs more of these important substances, but there is less time and thought for the healthy, balanced diet that satisfies that need.
