Folic acid deficiency increases the risk of developmental disorders

Folic acid deficiency-cause for developmental disorders

Folic acid is indispensable for cell division and the growth of the embryo from the day of fertilization. This is because the development of the central nervous system begins soon after conception. The neural tube develops in humans between the 19th and 28th day of pregnancy. At this early stage, many women do not even know that they are pregnant.

Normal Dosage

Medical guidelines therefore advise all women who wish to have a child to take 400 micrograms of folic acid in tablet form every day. This supplementation should be continued at least until the end of the first trimester.
