This is because the vital trace element selenium is needed in many different places in the body. A deficiency can therefore manifest itself in very different ways. The medium-sized family business is one of the leading suppliers of selenium products in Germany.
With the help of experts, the biosyn products have been adapted to the regulations of the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). This is the only way to allow importation and marketing in the USA. And the market is huge. According to FDA data, sales of dietary supplements there exceed $40 billion a year. “With our high-quality products, we see an opportunity to establish ourselves there over time,” said biosyn CEO Thomas Stiefel. He points out that the company has been an innovation leader in the production of aseptic and high-quality trace element compounds under cleanroom conditions for more than a decade. Since 2009, it has been able to produce the active ingredient sodium selenite pentahydrate – the basic ingredient for all of the company’s selenium products – in Germany in the internationally prescribed cGMP quality.
Incidentally, the company has also been active in the biotech sector for over two decades with a glycoprotein isolated from Megathura crenulata, a marine snail found in California. The biosyn corporation in Carlsbad, California, is responsible for this.
